Resin delivery in seconds
The truck arrives with the resin. Instead of typing the delivery note and certificate of analysis line by line into the ERP, the receiving manager takes a phone photo. iLEAN Connect extracts lot, quantity and properties in seconds, and after one validation tap, everything posts to the ERP with IATF-ready traceability.
Traceability to the customer starts with somebody typing under pressure.
The truck waits accruing demurrage while the receiving manager types the delivery note into the ERP. If they rush it, mis-traced lots slip through and surface weeks later when a part fails at the customer and the resin lot has to be traced.
- The truck arrives and waits while the receiving manager types the delivery note into the ERP line by line, with the driver watching, demurrage running and the warehouse blocked behind it.
- The certificate of analysis — grade, melt flow index, moisture, supplier lot — goes into a binder, not into the system.
- If the typing is rushed, a lot gets linked to the wrong material, and that does not show up at the dock. It shows up weeks later, when a part fails at the customer and the resin lot has to be traced.
- Each supplier prints a different layout, and none of them is going to change it for you.
Connect in photo mode — the note, the certificate and the bag labels, as they come.
Connect photo mode. Computer vision recognizes the delivery note and CoA layout without asking the supplier to change theirs. For bag or gaylord labels, the camera reads barcode, QR or plain text via OCR.
The supplier changes nothing, the ERP changes nothing and the dock gets its hour back. Computer vision handles the layout that already exists, including the bag and gaylord labels, by barcode, QR or plain text, and one validation tap sends lot, quantity and properties into the ERP with the traceability an IATF audit expects.
Today's receiving versus receiving with a photo
| Aspect | Today | With iLEAN Connect |
|---|---|---|
| Time the truck spends at the dock | About an hour | Minutes |
| The certificate of analysis | Filed in a binder | Attached to the resin lot in the ERP |
| Bag and gaylord identification | Read and typed by hand | Barcode, QR or plain text by camera |
| A lot keyed wrong | Surfaces at the customer weeks later | Caught at the dock |
| The supplier's paperwork | A different layout each time | Nobody is asked to change anything |
| Receiving and warehouse seats | 2-3 people logged into the ERP | One manager, one tap · 50-70% fewer |
an hour of receiving → minutes. Hidden lot errors → zero. Broken CoA-to-lot-to-part traceability → complete via photo.
Impact estimate — to be validated with your numbers.
The block below is an estimate to be validated against your plant's actual data. We put it forward so the committee has an order of magnitude; we refine it during the assessment.
- Estimated payback 3-8 months, counting dock time and the avoided cost of a mis-traced lot.
- A typical reduction of 50-70% in receiving and warehouse seats, because the manager validates with one tap instead of logging in.
- Receiving from an hour to minutes, which is demurrage the plant stops paying on every delivery.
- The chain from certificate to resin lot to shipped part closed at the dock, which is where an IATF auditor starts pulling.
— *CFO angle*: the receiving/warehouse ERP module typically requires 2-3 active licenses; with Connect, only the manager validates with one tap without logging into the ERP. Typical reduction of 50-70% in receiving/warehouse module licenses. Estimated payback 3-8 months. Estimate to validate.
And the fair question from the production manager
"What if the note and the labels on the pallet disagree?" — that is not a failure mode, it is the point: today nobody compares them. Reading both is an anchored task where the best models drop below 1.5% error [1], and when the two disagree nothing is posted — the discrepancy goes to the receiving manager with both images side by side, at the dock, while the driver is still there.

What people ask about receiving resin with a photo
What if the certificate arrives by email instead of with the truck?
It is captured the same way, from the mailbox rather than the camera, and attached to the same lot. Receiving does not wait for it: the lot is booked in and flagged as pending its certificate until the document lands, so nothing quietly enters production uncertified.
Does it check the delivery note against the purchase order?
Yes, and that is where a good share of the value sits: grade, quantity and price are compared against the open purchase order, and a mismatch is raised before the material is booked in rather than at invoice reconciliation a month later, when the pellets are already in parts.
What happens with a partial or short delivery?
It is booked for what actually arrived, with the shortfall recorded against the order. The frequent case of one pallet fewer than the note claims stops being discovered at the next stock count, when nobody can say which delivery it came from.
Does it read the melt flow index and moisture on the certificate?
It does, and they are worth capturing even if nobody looks at them today: when a mold suddenly starts behaving differently with a new batch, those two values are the first thing you want to compare against the batch that ran fine. Having them typed nowhere is why that comparison is rarely made.
Can we trace a shipped part back to its resin lot with this case alone?
It closes the incoming half of the chain, from supplier lot to the material in the warehouse. Joining it to the drying record and the lot startup completes the path to the shipped part, which is why those three cases are usually deployed together and why they are the ones an auditor pulls on first.
