What people ask about the supervisor's headset
Is it listening the whole shift?
No. It wakes on a word the supervisor chooses and goes back to sleep when the dictation ends. That is a design decision, not a setting: a headset that listens all day does not survive its first week on a shop floor.
Does the supervisor have to name the press every time?
Not if they do not want to. Saying the cell number or the mold is enough, and when it is genuinely ambiguous the system asks one short question back instead of guessing. The wake word is chosen by the plant so it never collides with anything shouted on the floor.
How do you justify a piece that does not pay for itself?
By what depends on it. Continuous improvement, the defect history per mold and half the value of the flagship case all rest on this information existing somewhere. The brief is honest about it having no business case of its own, and it is better sized as a precondition than dressed up with numbers nobody believes.
Can the setter or the quality technician dictate too?
They can, and in plants running three shifts it usually ends up that way. It starts with the supervisor because that is where the highest density of useful observation sits, and because one headset is a far easier thing to try than twenty.
What happens with something dictated about a person?
It is treated as what it is: an operational note about training or support, visible to the supervisor and their manager. It is not a performance record and it is not used as one.
