The problem

The FSC certificate lives in a folder — the batch lives on the shop floor, and sometimes they never speak to each other.

An office furniture manufacturer with an FSC Chain of Custody certificate has three realities that are almost never in the same place:

1. Supplier FSC certificates — PDFs per inbound delivery, with the certificate number, the product group (FSC 100%, FSC Mix Credit, FSC Mix %) and the volume. They usually sit in the purchasing manager's shared folder.
2. The physical batch entering the plant — a pallet identified by the supplier's label, stored in a specific location. This is where the FSC pallet and the non-FSC pallet start living side by side.
3. The product going out to market with an FSC label — a reception counter, a dispatch desk, a filing drawer unit, with an FSC label stuck on the packaging.

The purchasing manager has the paperwork in order. The quality manager has the procedure written down. The operator cuts board all day long. And the FSC product group balance — auditable inputs vs. outputs — is kept in most plants in a spreadsheet updated at the end of the week, not at second zero of the cut.

The FSC auditor does not ask about the procedure. They ask about the real traceability of the specific batch in front of them: this piece of furniture, this drawer unit, this chipboard, that certificate. Rebuilding that chain by hand takes days. If one piece is missing, the FSC certificate is suspended — and with it the public tender or the retailer contract that required it.

How it fits the IRIS system

If an outbound shipment is about to be labeled FSC 100% but the physical batch comes from a Mix Credit pallet, it holds the dispatch and alerts the quality manager. It generates the batch dossier for the auditor in a ready-to-use format, not in a spreadsheet.
