The problem

The EUDR DDS does not break at customs — it breaks at the farm and at the packing house.

A complete EUDR DDS for a mango reefer container is the cross-reference of four pieces of data generated at four different moments:

1. The plot coordinates — recorded by the agronomist, the cooperative or the national register. Sometimes on paper, sometimes in a local app, sometimes in a spreadsheet kept by the manager.
2. The packing house batch — which suppliers go into each pallet, managed in the exporter's ERP or in the packing manager's head.
3. The physical box inside the container — the batch → pallet → position link inside the reefer container, recorded by the operator during loading.
4. The DDS filed with TRACES NT — the message the European importing operator submits to the EU, with WGS84 coordinates, CoO per package and a reference to the BL.

The compliance lead knows all this, but cannot be at the farm, at the packing house, at the loading port and at customs at the same time. The classic system works 95% of the time. That 5% is the container held at a European port — and every day it sits there is demurrage plus mango shelf life burnt on the dock. When a container reaches its destination with an incomplete DDS or a coordinate that does not add up, the European operator cannot clear it. Rebuilding it against the clock costs more than doing it properly from origin.
