Traceability is born at the dock, under pressure from a truck that charges by the minute.

Critical component receiving is the point where the traceability of the whole chain is born. If the lot enters wrong here, the birth history of every unit carrying it is contaminated, and nobody finds out until it matters — which is to say, at the worst possible moment. The two usual exits are both bad. If the supervisor keys it in carefully, the truck waits, and demurrage on a dangerous goods vehicle is not cheap. If they type fast, one digit goes wrong in a lot identifier. Is the certificate of analysis read as well?

Yes, and it is the part that adds most: its values end up tied to the lot, so proving what that propellant lot certified stops being a search through a filing cabinet on containment day.

Does it feed the segregated storage and reconciliation records?

Yes. Those parallel records exist because pyrotechnic material is regulated, and they are fed from the same validated capture instead of being kept by hand a second and third time.

What if the packing list and the labels disagree?

The discrepancy is highlighted in the summary before the supervisor validates. Today nobody makes that cross-check with a dangerous goods truck waiting at the dock.

Do we need a barcode scanner?

Not necessarily: a photo from an industrial tablet or phone is enough for GS1-128, two-dimensional codes and plain text. If the dock already has scanners that work well, they integrate just the same.

Can we start with receiving alone?
